Rep. Douglas Wozniak (R-Shelby Township) is getting the word out that there is a new way for residents of Michigan to get the help they need in the wake of COVID-19.

Michigan House Republicans announced a new website, MiCovidStory.com, which serves as a resource for residents who are suffering and concerned about their livelihoods.

Fatalities in Michigan have totaled almost 6,000 from the pandemic, as of June 11.

“This will be a valuable conduit for the Legislature. It allows us to continue looking out for people during this emergency as the governor chooses not to involve the Legislature in the decision-making process,” Wozniak said, according to Michigan House Republicans. “I encourage people across Macomb County and southeast Michigan to share their experiences during this unprecedented time. We hear these types of stories in our offices every day. This website will hopefully allow them to be heard by those making key decisions.”

The site is meant to be helpful, alongside the Joint Select Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic, as the bipartisan committee works to oversee the responsiveness and decision-making processes of the state and local departments responding to the crisis.

The website features a short questionnaire, which only requires a few minutes to fill out. Individuals are asked for their name, zip code, phone number and email address. They then have the opportunity to select the responses that best reflect their situations and how the coronavirus has impacted them.

Response options include: loss of a loved one, nursing homes/long-term care, hospitals/health care facilities/treatment, personal protective equipment/critical supplies and other.

Individuals are then asked to share their story, in as much detail as they like. There is also an option for uploading files that pertain to the user's story.

MiCovidStory.com will potentially help representatives better serve their constituents in this challenging and unprecedented time, as well as be better prepared for similar situations in the future.
