State Representative Ron Robinson has introduced a resolution in the Michigan House to honor the Detroit Red Wings as they mark their 100th season in the National Hockey League.
“For a century, the Detroit Red Wings have been a proud part of Michigan’s identity,” Robinson said. “Their legacy of hard work, determination, and perseverance reflects the values we hold, not just in Detroit, but across every corner of our state.”
The Red Wings, established in 1926 and originally known as the Detroit Cougars, have won 11 Stanley Cup championships—the highest number for any U.S.-based NHL team. The resolution notes significant achievements including a long playoff streak, over 3,000 total wins, and more than 1,000 players who have worn the team's Winged Wheel logo.
“The Red Wings represent more than just championships,” Robinson added. “They represent community, tradition, and pride in where we come from. Generations of Michiganders have grown up watching this team and wearing that Winged Wheel with pride. Their story is part of our story.”
The resolution also recognizes the team’s charitable work through the Detroit Red Wings Foundation, which has supported youth and community programs throughout Michigan.
