State Representative Ron Robinson (R–Utica) has voted in favor of a legislative package aimed at advancing nuclear energy development in Michigan. The set of bills, known as House Bills 4124–4129, passed on the House floor and is designed to promote investment in advanced nuclear and hydrogen energy by introducing new tax incentives, education grants, and workforce programs.

Robinson commented on the legislation’s goals: “This package creates the foundation for Michigan to lead the nation in safe, reliable, and innovative nuclear energy. By supporting advanced nuclear technologies and developing a skilled workforce here at home, we’re ensuring that Michigan families and businesses have access to affordable, carbon-free power for decades to come.”

The bipartisan plan includes targeted tax credits intended for research, development, and generation of power using small modular reactors. It also sets up grant programs focused on strengthening Michigan’s energy workforce through education initiatives such as scholarships and efforts to retain graduates.

“Energy is an issue that effects every aspect of our lives. From the gas in our cars, to the lights in the house chamber, it’s all dependent on our ability to produce and deliver energy,” said Robinson. “This bill package is the first of its kind and will position Michigan as the destination state for nuclear energy. More energy means lower rates for Michigan families who need to heat their homes in the winter and stay cool in the summer. I came to Lansing committed to lowering the cost of living for hardworking Michiganders, and that’s what makes this package so exciting.”
