Rep. Josh Schriver, a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, posted several updates on his official social media account regarding legislative initiatives and local events.
On September 23, 2025, Schriver announced his participation in an upcoming community event by stating, "Looking forward to joining Turning Point Action and MI Matters for Unity Night in Shelby Township. If you're ready to build a stronger, more courageous movement in Michigan — I'll see you there! Big speech! Register for the event here: https://t.co/SYNW7Hd8hl https://t.co/q3QAPWuz1x".
The following day, September 24, 2025, Schriver addressed proposed legislation known as The Public Morals Act. He wrote, "I will not be advancing The Public Morals Act as is. I am drafting a new version that removes all language regarding VPNs and non-pornographic imagery to ensure this policy only addresses pornography." This statement indicates a revision of the bill’s scope to focus solely on regulating pornographic content and exclude provisions related to virtual private networks (VPNs) or non-pornographic material.
Later that same day, Schriver commented on a legal case involving a hunter and state authorities: "An innocent hunter was nearly bankrupted, dragged through court, and threatened with six-figure fines…over a deer. Case dismissed, but the damage is done. We’ve exposed lawfare from the AG. Now we’re exposing lawfare from the DNR. TRUTH TO LIGHT". In this post, he criticized what he described as aggressive legal tactics used by both the Attorney General's office and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Turning Point Action is an advocacy organization that frequently hosts political events across the United States. MI Matters is a local group focused on civic engagement within Michigan communities.
Legislative proposals addressing online content regulation have become increasingly common in recent years at both state and federal levels. Such bills often generate debate about digital privacy tools like VPNs and their relationship to content filtering.
Legal disputes between hunters and regulatory agencies such as state departments of natural resources are not uncommon in Michigan, where hunting regulations are strictly enforced by authorities responsible for wildlife management.
