State Rep. Ron Robinson (R-Utica) has emphasized Macomb County’s support for the House Republican Road funding plan after county officials spoke at a local hearing of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation.
Robinson requested that the committee hold its hearing in Macomb County to allow state lawmakers to hear directly from residents and local leaders about road conditions.
“I wanted Lansing to hear directly from the people and local leaders who drive these roads every day,” said Robinson. “Bringing the committee to Macomb helps ensure that the residents’ voices are the center of discussion.”
During the hearing, Macomb County officials shared data indicating that, under current state funding formulas, there is no net improvement in overall road quality in their region. Roads deteriorate as quickly as they are repaired. The officials estimated that if the new House Republican Road funding plan is adopted, many county roads would improve from poor to good condition over time.
“Macomb County’s testimony makes it clear that the current system is failing our communities,” said Robinson. “The plan I voted for brings meaningful change and improves the roads we use every day. It gives our local communities the tools they need to actually make a difference with the long list of deteriorating roads, and that’s exactly what taxpayers here have been asking for.”
The proposed legislation, House Bills 4180-4187, would allocate an additional $3.1 billion annually toward infrastructure repairs without increasing taxes.
