On June 12, 2025, President Trump signed the Clean Truck Congressional Review Act. This legislation, sponsored by Representative John James, aims to nullify California’s Advanced Clean Trucks rule, which aligns with Green New Deal emission standards. According to James's official website, the law seeks to block what he describes as a "back door" environmental mandate that could add $42,000 to the cost of a diesel truck. He argued that the measure protects independent truckers and small businesses from costly federal overreach.

A 2024 study by Michigan Advance projected that clean-energy regulations and programs aligned with the Inflation Reduction Act could generate 959 jobs annually in Michigan by 2030 and 1,748 jobs by 2040. The same study estimated $127.8 million in annual GDP growth, highlighting the potential economic impact of maintaining versus repealing Green New Deal-style policies. These figures underscore the stakes of recent deregulatory legislation.

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the U.S. solar power market reached 239 gigawatts of installed capacity by the end of 2024, producing 218.5 terawatt-hours of electricity that year. Solar accounted for 66% of all new power generation capacity in 2024, indicating strong industry growth even without mandates, including in states like Michigan. These trends reflect a resilient market beyond federal incentives.

John James is a Republican U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 10th Congressional District and has been serving since 2021.
