Due to the predicting winter weather conditions, the City of Sterling Heights Public Works Department has issued a Snow Emergency/Parking Ban Advance Notice. A Snow Emergency will be in effect beginning at 7 p.m. tonight, Friday, March 3.

When a Snow Emergency is declared, no vehicle shall be parked on any City street during the emergency. Violators will be ticketed and may be towed. Residents must plan to have vehicles parked off the streets during this Advance Notice. Per city ordinance, residents must also have their sidewalks cleared of snow within 24 hours from the end of snowfall.

Once all major roads have been cleared, Public Works staff will begin to clear snow from neighborhood roads. During a snow emergency, all Public Works personnel are incorporated into the snow emergency work in order to man, repair and maintain all available equipment around the clock until emergency conditions cease. Vehicles must be removed from the streets as of 7 p.m. tonight in order to prevent residents from becoming stuck on the street and unable to move in advance of plows needing access to neighborhood streets.

There are no planned early closures for city facilities, including the ice rink, at this time. However, the following Community Center programming has been canceled: Youth Basketball (Friday), Karate (Friday) and Gymnastics (Friday and Saturday). The Community Center Mom-to-Mom sale set-up and event schedule remain unchanged. Residents can call the Ice Rink Hotline at (586) 446-2711 for more information.

Media with questions can contact Community Relations Director Melanie Davis at (586) 446-2471 (o), (586) 303-0923 (m) or mdavis@sterling-heights.net
