Person of Interest in Harrison Township Breaking and Entering

Harrison Township, MI. - On 12/20/22 at approximately 6:00am, Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Citgo Gas Station on Jefferson Ave for a breaking and entering that had occurred overnight.  The caller/employee stated that when she arrived at work, she had found the front glass doors to be smashed and items from within the store strewn about the parking lot.

The owner arrived on scene and was able to access the video surveillance system.  Video showed two suspects arrive at approximately 3:30am.  Both suspects had pieces of cement with them.  Suspect 1 throws the cement through the front door breaking the glass and suspect 2 reaches in and unlocks the door.  Once inside both suspects go behind the counter and begin to fill bags with vape pens, cigarettes, and lottery tickets.  The suspects then flee eastbound with items falling from the bags leaving a trail behind them.

The area was canvassed and several more videos were obtained.  Evidence was collected and the State of Michigan Bureau of State Lottery was contacted due to lottery tickets being stolen.  The following day, information was received that several of the stolen tickets had attempted to be cashed at multiple different locations in Detroit and Roseville.

Video Surveillance from stores where the tickets were attempted to be cashed were obtained and the videos showed two males.  One of the males attempting to cash the stolen lottery tickets was wearing the same clothing from the B&E.  Still images from both the original B&E video and the video of the suspects attempting to cash the lottery tickets were compared and Derck Budzynski, 38, out of Harrison Township was developed as a person of interest.

Investigators are still working to identify the second suspect.

Anyone with information on this incident or that may be able to assist in locating Budzynski is requested to contact Detective Wohlfield at 586-463-1854.
