Last week the Sterling Heights African American Coalition, DEI Employee Council, members of City Council and Administration spent the day learning about the Tuskegee Airman through a detailed tour of the Detroit City Airport, Charles H. Wright Museum and Historic Fort Wayne.

The Tuskegee Airmen were dedicated, determined young men who volunteered to become America's first Black military airmen and fought in World War II. The day was filled with impactful information learning about the struggles and successes of the Tuskegee Airmen and the history we have here the Detroit area! Did you know Coleman Young was a Tuskegee Airman?

The Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum provided the group with an opportunity to look back and honor the Tuskegee Airmen while also showcasing the importance of looking forward to inspire the next generation of aviators.

The Museum is also investing in aviation and aerospace education for youth, with an emphasis on underrepresented students, to help create a new generation of pilots, air traffic controllers, technicians, welders and astronauts.
