How will you know if an emergency is occurring in your community? Most communities are served by an outdoor siren system, but these don't offer much information. Check your community's website and sign up for text or email alerts (you can sign up for alerts in other areas to help keep loved ones informed as well).
You can also sign up for FEMA's mobile app to help you plan, protect, and recover from disasters in your community with real-time weather and emergency alerts at www.ready.gov/alerts#app/.
Finally, don't forget to reach out to neighbors and family who may not have access to cell phones or television to make sure they are safe.
