As a kindergarten student, Nolan Roessler would walk through a courtyard at Beck Elementary and wanted to help make improvements.

Now, as an Eisenhower sophomore, he returned back to his elementary school to plant flowers, fix brick and clean the area as his Eagle Scout project.

Now, as an Eisenhower sophomore, he returned back to his elementary school to orchestrate a team to remove and replace over 100 wall cap blocks, fix patio bricks, plant flowers, and clean the area as his Eagle Scout project.

“I have been a scout since Beck Elementary, it’s where I started as a Scout so I wanted to give back by doing the Eagle project there,” he said. “I think it is important to give back to the people who raised you.”

Over the past two months, Roessler has been fundraising and planning a complete makeover of the courtyard he walked as an elementary student.

Everything came together two weeks ago, when volunteers from his family, friends, and Troop 256 renovated the courtyard.

“I like how the teachers can use it as a outside learning environment,” he said. “It feels really good that it is finally done and people can use it.”

Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the in the scouting program. Roessler will earn the top status at a ceremony later this year.
