We are again taking reports of residents receiving scam phone calls. The caller is reported to be a male stating he is one of our deputies. The caller ID shows up as 586-469-5151, which is the number to the Sheriff's Office. The caller provided a call back number as 586-439-2929. The caller advised that the victim had missed a court date. The victim immediately recognized this as a scam being she had not been in Macomb County.
Please be advised that the caller is not a Deputy with our agency. The caller was able to spoof our telephone number which is why is showed on the caller's ID. We would like to use this as reminder that our staff will never request money in the form of cash, gift cards, bitcoin, etc from you in lieu of your arrest, sex offender registration, or jury duty. Any monies taken for bond would be only accepted at the bond office located within the Macomb County Sheriff's Office. Any forms needed by the Sheriff's Office would need to be signed in person in front of a Sheriff's Office employee who would be able to provide identification.
Please share this information with your friends and family, especially those who may not have social media. If you receive a phone call from someone identifying themselves as a Sheriff's Office employee and you were not expecting that call or are unfamiliar with the staff member, please contact our front desk at 586-469-5151. You can always come to our office in person as well and speak face-to-face with a staff member.
