Clinton Charter Township issued the following announcement on Jan 31.
Clinton Township Treasurer Paul Gieleghem has announced extended hours on Tuesdays in February to help working taxpayers pay their 2021 taxes.
“Our small but efficient staff in the Treasurer’s office is juggling the schedule to stay open late on Tuesdays in February,” said Gieleghem. “We don’t want residents to have to take time off work to pay their taxes.”
On Feb. 1, 8, 15, and 22, the Clinton Township Treasurer’s office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. On Monday, Feb. 28, the last day to pay 2021 taxes, the office will open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“We’ll be here to take payments if residents want to come by our office to get a receipt,” said Gieleghem. “We also provide free and safe automated options for people who want convenience or to avoid venturing out.”
Gieleghem added that online and automated phone payments are FREE to make when processed as an e-check, which requires a bank account and routing number as displayed on the bottom of their personal checks. To pay online, customers go to the Township’s website at clintontownship.com, click on BILL PAYMENTS, and follow the prompts to search for a property by name, address, or parcel number. Paying by phone begins by calling 1-833-440-3769 and then following the prompts. A 2.8% service fee is added to credit and debit cards payments.
In addition, payments can be placed in an envelope and inserted into the dropbox in front of the Civic Center or mailed to the Clinton Township Treasurer at 40700 Romeo Plank Rd, Clinton Township, MI 48038. Customers should write their parcel number on their check to ensure payment is applied correctly.
By state law, all unpaid 2021 taxes are declared delinquent and transferred from the local community to the Macomb County Treasurer for collection on Mar. 1, 2022. Once balances are transferred, the County Treasurer adds a 4 percent administrative fee and 1 percent interest charge per month for the first year. After, increases will occur.
“We want to make it as convenient as possible for taxpayers to pay their taxes at the local level and avoid these additional expenses,” said Gieleghem.
