County of Macomb issued the following announcement on Nov 10.

The fifth annual Shop Local Macomb campaign has returned just in time for the holidays, and as always, the initiative is asking shoppers to give business to independently owned and operated establishments. In return, participants can enter into a drawing to win one of 10 $150 gift cards donated by First State Bank. A $1,000 grant for 10 randomly selected small businesses will also be awarded.

“We are fortunate to have the opportunity to showcase our county’s 1,600 independently owned and operated businesses with the return of Shop Local Macomb,” said Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel. “I know I’ll be purchasing some of my gifts at local small businesses this year, and I hope you’ll join me in this effort. Everyone benefits when we shop local.”

To enter, participants can:

  1. Snap a picture shopping with a local retailer Thursday, November 18 through Sunday, December 5
  2. Submit the entry on MakeMacombYourHome.com
  3. Share the images on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #ShopLocalMacomb
Businesses highlighted by consumers through photos will be automatically entered to win a $1,000 grant. Winning shoppers and businesses will be randomly selected on Monday, December 6.

“Local businesses create a distinct sense of place for each of Macomb’s 27 municipalities,” said Vicky Rowinski, director, Macomb County Planning and Economic Development. “It’s important to support these establishments, especially during the holiday season, so they can continue to make our community a great place to live, work and play.”

Shop Local Macomb is coordinated by the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development with support from area chambers, including the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce, the Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber of Commerce, the Romeo-Washington Chamber of Commerce, the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce and the Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce. First State Bank provides the gift cards.
