Utica Police Department has acquired a radar speed sign

Speed

City of Utica issued the following announcement on Aug 27.

The new sign will be moving to streets throughout the city. Next stops Cass Ave. and Hahn.

Please drive carefully and keep our neighborhoods safe for the kids and pedestrians.

The Utica Police Department has acquired a radar speed sign, almost entirely through grants from local businesses. In addition to flashing an alert when drivers are speeding, this equipment gathers important information about the number of cars traveling on the road, the average speed of all cars, etc.

We deployed the new sign on Canal Road and have gathered valuable data about the traffic there. The sign will be moving to other streets that were identified as problem areas in the Traffic Study released earlier this year.

This data will help our Traffic Officer make decisions about where to deploy patrol officers to help reduce speeding in the neighborhoods and keep our streets safe.
