Charter Township of Shellby issued the following announcement on Nov. 9.
As part of a regular monitoring process, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy identified PFAS at the closed SOCRRA Avon Landfill at 1741 School Road in Rochester Hills in groundwater above standards protective of drinking water. According to EGLE, the contamination poses no risk to residents with municipal water supplied by the Great Lakes Water Authority. EGLE informed Shelby Township that there may be risks to a limited number of homes and businesses that maintain private wells located within a one-half mile radius of the landfill. If you are concerned about the safety of your private well, contact EGLE at 800-648-6942 or visit michigan.gov/pfasresponse for more information.
