Charter Township of Shellby issued the following announcement on Oct. 23.
We’ve all seen the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our lives and community. One thing is for sure, the annual Veterans Memorial 5K Run/Walk is no exception.
For the past 7 years, Shelby Township has hosted the annual Veterans Memorial 5K Run/Walk on campus. Together, we’ve supported our surrounding communities and come together for a celebration of our veterans.
Throughout this year, we’ve seen many of our annual in-person events be cancelled due to health concerns. Though many these events have been cancelled, it is our commitment to you to support our community through a virtual 5K Run/Walk in place of the annual in-person 5K.
This year, we will run virtually. Starting in November, runners and walkers will commit to logging at least 3.1 miles on their own. We will connect with each other via our Facebook group and website.
Funds will be raised through our website: www.shelbytwp.org/veterans and will go toward the support and maintenance of our Veterans Memorial. Participants will be encouraged to engage their friends and family to raise funds and cheer them on as they complete their 5K virtually.
