Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide is facing an investigation amid claims he shared posts on social media that praised police brutality, Metro Times reported.
“We have been made aware of some recent posts being attributed to our Chief," the department wrote on Twitter. "The Township is looking into it now. Please have patience with us while we find out what is happening.”
Shelide allegedly made the posts under the handle @sheepdawg711 and the name Robert J. Shelide. The account has since been deactivated but not before the posts could be revealed and reported.
One of the posts makes a reference to the Black Lives Matter movement and President Donald Trump’s messages to bring in military troops to help control protests.
"Trump threatening to deploy the military. I have a better idea: unleash real cops and let them take care of these barbarians," another post from Shelide said. "I promise it will be over in 24 hours. Cops are crippled by politicians and the media.”
Another post calls out a handful of black protesters who were accused of assaulting a business owner, Metro Times reported.
“Wild savages. I wish to God I would have been there. Body bags for these vicious subhumans," the post said.
Shelide also supposedly got into a banter with another Twitter used, who celebrated a video of NYPD getting physical with someone. The other user said he wished to have seen more "errant" swings with batons in the video and Shelide allegedly agreed.
If Shelide is behind the controversial messages, an investigation into the Shelby Township Police Department’s history in using force could also come into the spotlight.
