Macomb Academy issued the following announcement on Mar. 27.
Dear Macomb Academy students and families,
I hope this letter finds you well, safe, and making the most of the time you have together with those around you. It appears the new normal routine for me is that once I settle into a new routine, new information brings about another new routine. Therefore, rather than social distancing myself, I am remaining social and distancing myself physically as I keep pace with my favorite routine of sending you a weekly communication. This letter is intended to bring you up to date on where Macomb Academy is, as of today, as well as share new resources and information that has become available to me during this time of mitigating the spread of COVID-19.
As you are aware, on Monday, March 23, 2020, Governor Whitmer signed the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order in an effort to protect people in communities throughout Michigan. With each Executive Order, and new information regarding the spread of COVID-19, our lives are impacted in similar and dissimilar ways. It is understandable to feel unsettled because, I believe, in times of uncertainty we desire certainty. I want to reassure you that all of the Macomb Academy staff will continue to serve our students and families using various means of remote options, especially at this time of transition and need. In an effort to make sure that we can deliver the necessary resources to each of you, I invite you to reach out to our staff or me to let us know what you need. Each of us will do whatever we can to connect you with the best resources and sources of support. I am also happy to talk to you or students to answer questions or provide support and reassurance. You can reach me through E-mail or by phone. Since educators are members of the “essential workforce” designated by Governor Whitmer, you may call Macomb Academy, as I am working in the building intermittently keeping up with operations. I am also available on my mobile phone number and through E-mail, which are provided below. Please stay in touch. Remaining connected is important as we are physically distant from one another.

During the past week, daily connection activities have been posted on our website and Facebook page. I hope you have enjoyed the delightful diversion the activities offer. For those with Faceboook, please post your responses or photos. For those without Facebook, please email your responses or photos to any staff member. Also, feel free to post or send a delightful diversion activity for everyone to enjoy. We miss our daily opportunity to see everyone and this is a great way to connect with each other. Join in the fun!
The Macomb Intermediate School District (Macomb ISD) is working in cooperation with all 21 local districts to coordinate emergency child care of children ages birth – 12 years old for those employees on the front lines supporting our community. If you, or anyone you know, are among the workers who meet the “essential worker” definition and need child care services, please contact Macomb ISD Emergency Child Care Coordinators Kelly Adamek at kadamek@misd.net or Sherine Katba at skatba@misd.net.
I realize you may have questions about how this school closure will continue to impact our Macomb Academy community. I will continue to share updates with you as it becomes available to me. On behalf of the Macomb Academy staff, I want to remain connected with you in the way that works best for you. Please visit our Macomb Academy website and our Facebook page regularly for ready information. Anything posted to these sites will also be sent to you through your preferred method of communication.
Please let me know how you prefer to receive future communications from me – E-mail or U.S. Postal Service.
As always, keep yourself safe by being careful and intentional, stay home, be cheerful, and practice optimism. I miss every student, staff member, family, and caregivers, and of course, our normal routine. As a Macomb Academy community, we will remain connected and supportive, and rest assured we will get through these days together with hope, patience, appreciation, humor, and joy.
Warm regards,
Anne-Marie Sladewski, Ed.D.
Executive Director
