Huron Academy issued the following announcement on Jan. 14.
As the first semester of the school year comes to a close, I wanted to make you aware of an opportunity that will be available to some of Huron Academy’s students, in the second semester, that speak multiple languages.
State requirements for graduation from high school require two years of foreign language instruction. However, students that are able to listen, speak, read, and write in a language other than English have the opportunity to test out of this requirement. Huron Academy would like to assist our students that are familiar with Arabic, in satisfying this requirement by offering an Arabic Language class. This class will focus on reading and writing in the Arabic language and does require that students have some familiarity with Arabic.
In order to launch the pilot program we need your help. If this is a program that would be of interest to your child please email Mrs. Leach at leachl@huronacademy.org. This class is likely to be held every day for the remainder of the year during student electives and will require significant changes in scheduling. It will be a rigorous course and students will be required to apply themselves for best results. Given that we would prefer to maintain a relatively small class size for the pilot program, enrollment in the course will be based on a first come, first serve basis.
