State Representative Tom Kuhn (R-Troy) has provided information about local food assistance resources in response to a possible delay in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, which may be affected by the ongoing federal government shutdown beginning November 1.
“Everyone deserves the security of knowing where their next meal will come from,” said Kuhn. “If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to connect with local food programs and community organizations. My office will be available to assist anyone seeking help or information about available resources.”
Kuhn listed several area food banks and support services for residents who may experience difficulty accessing SNAP benefits. These include Chaldean Ladies of Charity, Faith Lutheran Church TROY, Community Christian Church, Heritage, New Apostolic Church (including drive-up events), Riverwood Community, St. Ephrem, St. Matthias BABY, St. Thomas, St. Vincent de Paul – South Oakland Food Depot, and Utica United Methodist.
Some locations require appointments while others offer specific distribution times and dates for drive-up service. For example, New Apostolic Church will host drive-up distributions on November 3 and 17 as well as December 1 and 15 between 9:00am and 10:00am.
St. Vincent de Paul – South Oakland Food Depot operates on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
Residents are urged to contact these organizations directly for more details or schedule appointments if needed. Those requiring additional support can reach Rep. Kuhn’s office at (517) 373-1706 or via email.
