State Representative Ron Robinson (R-Utica) has introduced a substitute to Senate Concurrent Resolution 7, urging the U.S. Congress to end the ongoing federal government shutdown and approve a clean continuing resolution.
Robinson criticized the current version of the resolution passed by the Michigan Senate, stating that its partisan language increases political divisions and detracts from efforts to resolve the shutdown.
“People in Macomb County and across Michigan need the government back open,” said Robinson. “They don’t want to hear finger pointing. They want to receive their SNAP benefits, they want their troops to get paid, and they want a government that works for them.”
The substitute offered by Robinson emphasizes a bipartisan approach and calls on Congress to act quickly, pass a straightforward budget measure, and restore key federal services that millions of Americans depend on.
“In Michigan, we avoided a government shutdown by passing a short-term spending plan, engaging in bipartisan negotiations, and getting a deal across the finish line,” said Robinson. “The people of Michigan needed commonsense solutions and good faith negotiations. That is what we delivered: there’s no reason Congress can’t end the gridlock and do the same.”
