State Representative Ron Robinson of Utica has publicly supported President Trump's announcement regarding the addition of new F-15EX Eagle II fighter jets to Selfridge Air National Guard Base. This move will see the phasing out of the older A-10 Thunderbolts. House Resolution 78, aiming to honor the President's decision, was recently passed.
Robinson addressed the local impact, highlighting that the new mission is projected to sustain around 5,000 personnel and generate approximately $850 million in economic activity, primarily benefiting Macomb County.
“Selfridge is not just a military base. It is a symbol of pride and strength for Macomb County,” said Robinson. “This next generation fighter mission puts Michigan on the bleeding edge of military technology and sends a surge of optimism and energy through our whole state. This is an incredible win for Macomb County, but we’re not done yet.”
Further, Robinson shared intentions to seek more state funding for the air base, enhancing future operations.
“I am proud to support House Resolution 78 to commend President Trump for his leadership. I’d also like to thank Speaker Hall, Congressman James as well as the countless local officials, community advocates, and service members in Macomb County who never gave up on Selfridge,” Robinson stated. He reaffirmed his commitment to advocacy for the base and the service members stationed there.
