Macomb County Planning and Economic Development has announced the return of its Sprint and Splash Festival of Races, an event to be held at Lake St. Clair Metropark on Saturday, August 12, 2023.

“As always, we aim to showcase our County’s beautiful natural assets, including Lake St. Clair,” said Amanda Minaudo, program director for planning, Macomb County Planning and Economic Development. “All of our participants appreciate that. They get a chance to visit the park, walk or run its trails and kayak or paddleboard on the lake. It really is a fun event with something for everyone.”

Registration for the event will open in early May. In the meantime, sponsors are needed to support the costs of hosting the event, which benefits the Huron-Clinton Metroparks and the Clinton River Watershed Council. The mission of the Metroparks is: ‘To bring the benefits of parks and recreation to the people of southeast Michigan. All the people. All their lives.’ The mission of the CRWC is to protect, enhance and celebrate the Clinton River, its watershed and Lake St. Clair.

“We are so proud to support these two great organizations with our event,” Minaudo said. “Just last year, the HCMA was able to use our donation to install two new ADA accessible beach shower stations and water bottle fillers with pet drinking fountains at Lake St. Clair Metropark. We look forward to continuing this type of support through this year’s event.”

“The Metroparks are proud to play host to Sprint and Splash, and we’re so honored to be a beneficiary of the event as well,” said Joe Hall, park operations manager, Lake St. Clair Metropark. “The donations provide us with the opportunity to improve amenities for the public in ways that ensure people of all abilities can get outdoors and enjoy our natural and recreational opportunities.”

Since it began, Sprint and Splash has raised more than $90,000 for its benefactors. Sponsors play an important role in this. Organizations and individuals interested in donating to the 2023 event can find a variety of sponsorship opportunities here.

More event details, including day-of activities, timing and giveaways, will be announced soon. For any questions, please contact Amanda Minaudo at Amanda.minaudo@macombgov.org.
