Inclusive Playground Pals of Clinton Township to host 2nd annual Battle of the Badges Chili Cook-off

Inclusive Playground Pals of Clinton Township to host 2nd annual Battle of the Badges Chili Cook-off Fundraiser & Cornhole Tournament

Proceeds to help fund a playground for children of all abilities

CLINTON TOWNSHIP – The Inclusive Playground Pals of Clinton Township is hosting its second annual chili cook-off and cornhole tournament, benefitting the construction of an inclusive playground on the campus of the Clinton Township Civic Center.

This Battle of the Badges event, part of a series of friendly competitions featuring local first responders, takes place on Thursday, November 3, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Great Shots Backyard Bar & Games, located at 36901 Garfield Road in Clinton Township.

The effort to build the playground began in December 2019, when the Clinton Township Board of Trustees sanctioned the Inclusive Playground Pals Committee and approved donating space for the project near the main branch of the Clinton-Macomb Public Library and the Township’s new splash pad.

“An inclusive playground features universal design concepts, meaning children of all abilities will have the opportunity to play alongside each other,” said Committee Chair AnnMarie Ottoy. “All children deserve the opportunity to make new friends, regardless of their abilities,” she said.

Made up of parents, school and Township officials, and representatives of local disability organizations, Inclusive Playground Pals seeks to organize volunteers, raise funds, and educate the public on the benefits of the playground.

The Arc of Macomb County Inc. serves as the community 501C3 partner for the $1.5 million project, as well as one of the disability community advisors.

Macomb County serves nine percent of the state’s special education students, and Clinton Township serves 20 percent of Macomb County’s special education population. More than 4,300 students receive special education services through Clinton Township’s local school districts. Additional students take advantage of Macomb Intermediate School District programs.

Tickets for the Battle of the Badges Chili Cook-off Fundraiser & Cornhole Tournament can be purchased at the door or online at https://inclusiveplaygroundchilicornhole.eventbrite.com/.

Winning chili contestants will receive recognition and prizes in multiple categories. Cornhole players must register in advance to compete for cash prizes. The evening also features 50/50 raffles and basket auctions.
