The Southeast Michigan Construction Academy (SEMCA) is relocating its main campus to a new 100,000 square foot facility on Van Dyke Ave in Sterling Heights. This move comes in response to the growing demand for skilled trade workers. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new campus took place this week, with Rep. Ron Robinson (R-Utica) in attendance.

The new SEMCA campus will include advanced labs, classrooms, and modern equipment designed for hands-on training in trades such as HVAC, welding, and heavy construction. Rep. Robinson has been an advocate for skilled trades through his role as vice chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor and Economic Opportunity.

Robinson is leading efforts to secure an $8 million state appropriation to support the construction and development of this facility. He stated, “This investment in skilled trades education is a critical step toward building a stronger, more resilient workforce in Macomb County and throughout Michigan.”

He emphasized the importance of trade schools by saying, “Trade schools play a vital role in preparing students for high-demand careers, supporting local businesses, and investing in our economic future.” Robinson believes that prioritizing workforce development will not only address immediate labor shortages but also create long-term opportunities for Michigan families.
