On September 5, 2025, Schriver expressed admiration for the pontiff, stating, “It is a source of deep inspiration to have a Pope like Pope Leo XIV (@Pontifex) whose formative years have deep roots in the Great State of Michigan, of all places! Like him, may we all strive for a goodness, excellence, and godliness that can bring us to best serve God and man.”
The following day, Schriver questioned his own earlier assertion about the pope’s origins. On September 6, 2025, he wrote: “Pope Leo is from Chicago! How is he connected to Michigan?”
