Rep. Josh Schriver, a prominent figure in Michigan politics, has recently expressed his views on police relations, free speech rights, and legislative actions through a series of tweets. His statements address significant concerns about internal police dynamics, constitutional rights, and political proceedings.

On May 14, 2025, Rep. Schriver emphasized the importance of honest relations between police officers and their administrative leadership. He highlighted the results of a recent Michigan State Police survey that raised “serious concerns” regarding these internal dynamics. Schriver described this issue as “a matter of life and death” and shared a video for further information. “Effective police work EXTERNALLY requires honest relations INTERNALLY between police and their administrative leadership.”

Later that day, Rep. Schriver addressed the right to free speech in Michigan. He asserted that it is crucial for Michiganders to maintain their First Amendment rights without fear of governmental retaliation. He declared that even one citizen being “terrorized by the State” is unacceptable and underscored the necessity for citizens to freely criticize their government. “One Michigander terrorized by the State is too many!”

On May 15, 2025, Rep. Schriver reported on a recent legislative event where House Republicans defeated a resolution proposed by House Democrats to censure him for his America First Floor Speech delivered two weeks prior. In his tweet, he referenced Alexander Hamilton’s writings on Providence and expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the vote against censure efforts.“Yesterday, House Republicans DEFEATED a House Democrat Resolution to have me censured for my America First Floor Speech two weeks ago.”

Additional information: The Michigan State Police survey mentioned by Rep. Schriver was conducted internally to assess officer morale and relationships within the department.
