State Representative Ron Robinson from Utica issued a statement in response to the recent Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference (CREC) held in May. The conference, which occurs biannually in January and May, provides updated economic and revenue forecasts crucial for state budget planning. The forecasts help shape the governor’s executive budget proposal in January and guide final budget negotiations in May.
“This morning, CREC made it clear that Michigan’s revenue is down,” Robinson stated. He expressed concern over the Senate advancing a budget that exceeds the governor’s January recommendation by $1 billion, calling it “presumptuous at best, irresponsible at worst.” Robinson emphasized that the House is taking a cautious approach to ensure the budget aligns with available resources. He stressed the importance of using taxpayer dollars responsibly while avoiding overspending and potential tax increases that could impact Michigan families.
Robinson, who chairs the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military and Veterans Affairs, highlighted his commitment to ensuring efficient use of funds within the veterans and military budget. He aims to secure additional funding for Selfridge Air National Guard Base and support veterans. Furthermore, he underscored the need to prioritize investments in critical infrastructure like roads while avoiding unnecessary expenditures. According to Robinson, “Our budget should reflect Michigan’s real needs and what people care about.”
