Michigan legislature passes multiple house bills addressing public policy issues

House Bills 4077 and 4078, aimed at modernizing Michigan’s death certificate system, were passed with a vote of 106-2. Representative Josh Schriver supported these bills, highlighting their role in streamlining the certification process and integrating an electronic system for better accuracy and security.

House Bill 4122, which facilitates growth for home food businesses by increasing the income threshold before requiring a state license, passed with a vote of 101-7. Schriver endorsed this bill to reduce bureaucratic hurdles for local food producers.

The passage of House Bill 4245, with a vote of 105-3, was supported by Schriver to assist maple syrup and honey producers in expanding sales without needing state licenses.

Schriver also backed House Bills 4033 and 4034, which aim to update trust and estate laws in Michigan. These bills passed unanimously (106-0), offering families more flexibility in managing assets.

To combat fentanyl distribution, House Bills 4255 and 4256 were approved with votes of 66-40 and 65-41 respectively. Schriver emphasized the importance of these bills in enhancing penalties to deter drug-related crimes.

House Bills 4047 and 4048 address the illegal distribution of explicit deepfake images. Both bills passed with a vote count of 104-1. Schriver stressed their significance in protecting individuals from digital exploitation.

Insurance labeling transparency is tackled through House Bills 4027 and 4028, both passing unanimously (106-0). The legislation ensures consumers are not misled by insurance companies regarding coverage terms.

Public safety funding was addressed through House Bills 4260 and 4261, each passing with votes of 104-4. These bills establish accountability measures for community safety funds based on crime rate reductions.

Schriver shared updates on his co-sponsored bills advancing through legislative processes. Notably:

House Bills related to local control over solar farm placements have progressed out of committee.
House Bill 4279 proposes an apprenticeship program for Michigan National Guard members.
Legislation prohibiting sanctuary cities has moved forward.
The General Oversight Committee subpoenaed clerk training materials from the Department of State to ensure electoral transparency.
