State Representative Ron Robinson has expressed his support for a new House plan aimed at increasing K-12 school aid funding in Michigan. The initiative seeks to bolster educational resources and opportunities for students across the state.

“This budget is about building a strong foundation for Michigan’s next generation,” Robinson stated. He highlighted that, for the first time, the foundation allowance would rise to $12,000 per student, marking the highest level in Michigan’s history. This increase of $2,392 per child is expected to enhance classroom resources and academic support.

The comprehensive $21.9 billion K-12 budget aims to prioritize student success and financial transparency. It includes provisions such as $314.5 million in grants designed to help schools reduce class sizes, improve reading outcomes, consolidate facilities, and upgrade infrastructure. Schools will be required to submit annual reports detailing how per-pupil funds are utilized, ensuring accountability.

Safety measures are also part of the plan, with incentives for districts to employ at least one school resource officer. The proposal further stipulates that schools should not use curriculums promoting race or gender stereotyping and bans funding for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Additionally, it addresses fairness in girls’ athletics by preventing biological males from competing in female sports divisions.

Utica Community Schools is set to receive an increase of $34,681,583 while Warren Consolidated Schools will see an additional $16,730,628 in funding.

“Students and teachers in Utica and Warren will see a meaningful difference with these increases,” Robinson commented. He emphasized a return to basics by rejecting previous political trends and focusing on equipping teachers with necessary tools while maintaining student safety and achieving tangible results.

Robinson concluded that this plan is “a responsible, practical plan that addresses the key issues for Michigan Families.”
