The Michigan House of Representatives has passed a resolution honoring the election of Pope Leo XIV, who recently became the 267th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church and is the first American to hold this position. The resolution, known as House Resolution 160, was introduced by State Representative Josh Schriver and was adopted on September 4.

Schriver commented on the significance of the event, stating, “Today, the Michigan House recognized a truly historic moment, not just for American Catholics but for people of faith across the globe. Pope Leo XIV is the first American to be elected to this honored role, and his leadership brings hope, unity, and inspiration. I am honored to have led this resolution on behalf of the people of Michigan.”

The resolution offers congratulations to Pope Leo XIV and acknowledges both his spiritual mission and the importance of his new role for Catholics in America and worldwide.

Schriver also noted, “The Catholic Church is a big part of our community, and this is a monumental event. But whether Catholic or not, we can all appreciate the significance of this milestone. This is a big moment for American Catholics and the history of the church, and we all extend our deepest respect and congratulations to Pope Leo XIV.”
