State Rep. Ron Robinson (R–Utica) has supported a House budget plan that allocates funding to infrastructure, public safety, and military facilities across Michigan. The $56.6 billion proposal covers most state departments except education, which was previously addressed with a $21.9 billion School Aid Fund budget passed earlier this year. Combined, the two budgets total $78.5 billion for the coming fiscal year.
The overall spending represents a 3.7% decrease compared to the current year’s budget and is smaller than both the governor’s and Senate’s proposals by 6% and 7.2%, respectively.
Robinson highlighted key allocations in the budget: “Our budget dedicates $9.1 billion to Michigan’s roads, with $3.4 billion going directly to local communities so they can finally repair potholes and crumbling roads without raising taxes,” he said. “On top of that, we’re making a $295 million investment in the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs for our service members, including $26 million for Selfridge Air National Guard Base.”
The plan also increases support for public safety initiatives at both local and state levels. Robinson secured $250,000 for the Utica Police Department to upgrade equipment, while statewide funding includes full support of the public safety trust fund at $115 million.
“Whether it’s strengthening our schools, fixing our roads, protecting Michigan families, or securing the future of Selfridge, this budget reflects the priorities of our community and puts taxpayer dollars to work in ways that matter most,” Robinson stated. “As negotiations with the Senate and governor continue, I will keep fighting to ensure these key investments remain in the final budget that reaches the governor’s desk.”
